FDA-Approved Food Contact Material Testing Now Available in Mexico

July 03, 2025

We are pleased to announce that our food contact material (FCM) laboratory in Naucalpan, Mexico, is now approved to conduct testing in accordance with US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) standards. This approval was granted in May 2025.

This expansion enhances access to essential safety and quality evaluations for clients in the region and provides consumers with the confidence of a trusted, globally recognized seal of approval.

FDA-compliant FCM testing plays a critical role in ensuring that materials intended for contact with food meet the strict safety, labeling and performance standards required for the US market. Products that meet these standards help minimize risks to public health, prevent adverse effects from harmful substances, verify functional performance and build consumer trust through quality and compliance.

Our Naucalpan laboratory is now equipped and approved to offer testing according to the following FDA standards:

  • FDA CFR 21 176.170 Determination of the soluble extract in chloroform in paper and cardboard used as materials that come into contact with food
  • FDA 21 CFR 177.1520 Determination of the soluble and extractable fraction in olefin polymers used as food contact material
  • FDA 21 CFR 175.300 Determination of chloroform-soluble extract in polymeric coatings and resins used as food contact material

Clients will submit their testing application to us as the Notified Body. We then conduct relevant testing, which may cover:

  • Safety – is the product safe for its intended use?
  • Efficacy – does it perform as claimed?
  • Stability – how stable is it over time and under various conditions?
  • Toxicity – are there harmful materials and substances present?

Finally, we submit the results to the FDA for final approval.

Commenting on the FDA approval, Carla Álvarez, Director, Connectivity & Products, Mexico, said: “This expansion in our testing and certification services in Naucalpan reflects our commitment to helping the FCM industry meet global standards and reach key markets like the US. FDA approval not only enables access, but it also protects US consumers from substandard products. By offering recognized FCM testing locally, we help clients move to market faster, with greater confidence and compliance.”
