SG 077/25
New Hampshire has expanded the scope of its ban on intentionally added per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in consumer products. These prohibitions will become effective on January 1, 2027.
In August 2024, the US state of New Hampshire approved HB 1649 (Chapter 349, codified as RSA 149-M:64) to ban intentionally added PFAS in a wide variety of consumer goods. These prohibitions will take effect on January 1, 2027 (SafeGuardS 129/24).
On May 14, 2025, the governor of New Hampshire signed HB 167 (Chapter 19) into law to prohibit ski, boat and board waxes that contain intentionally added PFAS. This new measure amends RSA 149-M:64, IV ‘Product Ban’, by adding “Waxes produced for use on boats, skis, surfboards, bodyboards or skimboards” into the scope of the January 2027 prohibitions.
Highlights of HB 1649 (Chapter 349, 2024) and HB 167 (Chapter 19, 2025) are summarized in Table 1
