SG 134/25

The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has launched a consultation on the listing of three chemicals as substances of very high concern (SVHCs).

On September 1, 2025, the ECHA opened a 45-day consultation period on the proposed addition of three chemicals to the Candidate List of SVHCs. If approved, the total number of entries will increase from 250 to 253.

Highlights of the three substances are summarized in Table 1.

Item Substance [EC/CAS] Applications
1 4,4'-[2,2,2-trifluoro-1-(trifluoromethyl)ethylidene]diphenol and its salts (bisphenol AF (BPAF) and its salts)¹
  • Reactive process regulator in polymer materials and rubber production and processing
  • Monomer for polyimides, polyamides, polyesters, polycarbonate copolymers and other polymers
  • Vulcanizing or cross-linking agent in the manufacture of fluoroelastomers
2 4,4'-methylenediphenol (bisphenol F, BPF) [210-658-2/620-92-8]¹
  • May be used as a substitute for other bisphenols (e.g. bisphenol A (BPA)) in applications such as polymers/plastics
  • Realistic replacement option for BPA in thermal paper
  • Adhesives, coatings, dental sealants, lacquers, liners, varnishes and water pipes
3 n-hexane [203-777-6/110-54-3]²
  • Cleaning agents and coatings
  • Cosmetics and personal care products
  • Perfumes and fragrances
  • Polymer processing
  • Polishes and wax blends
