SGS, the world’s leading inspection, verification, testing and certification company recently announced its changes in management in China. Former Managing Director of SGS China (SGS-CSTC) Richard Shentu was assigned to SGS Global Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland and promoted to hold the post of EVP of CRS, being in charge of the management and development of consumer goods and retail business of SGS in the world. Former Managing Director of SGS Vietnam Steven Du was appointed as Managing Director of SGS China and at the same time he holds concurrent post as General Manager of CRS portfolio, becoming SGS’s new leader in China.

SGS Names New EVP of Consumer and Retail and Managing Director of SGS China

Since its entering into China in 1991, SGS has been developing at a high speed for 25 years under the leadership of all former Managing Directors of SGS China, and has become instructor in China’s testing and certification market as well as leader of the industry. Richard Shentu, as the first local leader of SGS in Mainland China, during his tenure of office, SGS’s business and market standing in China have experienced rapid development. As his successor, Mr. Steven Du also has wide international perspective and rich experience in management in the third-party testing and certification industry. He will continue leading SGS’s steady development in Chinese market.

Mr. Steven Du joined SGS in 1999 as sales & marketing supervisor to support development of newly established E&E laboratory in Guangzhou. In 2001 he was nominated as International Management Trainee receiving training in Geneva and worked for SGS Singapore and Philippines on food business. He was back to Shanghai in 2002 to establish first commercial food testing laboratory in China. Before heading to Vietnam in 2014, Steven held many senior positions in SGS China, including E&E Division Director, CTS Division General Manager. Prior to this appointment, Steven was MD of SGS Vietnam. 

China has entered a “new normal” economy. SGS will follow the global development strategy in China, keep up with market changes and demands of local customers, and actively face the opportunities and challenges in Chinese market. While enforcing and promoting our traditional business, we also invest in electronization and digitalization and focus on emerging business such as e-commerce, in order to provide reliable and quality security services for more newly emerging markets.
