SGS Issued 300 IECQ HSPM QC 080000 Certificates Worldwide
On 13 Mar 2008, Mr Chris Yau, IECQ HSPM Product Manager of SGS, proudly received a “300” pin from ECCB President Mr Lloyd Condra, signifying SGS’ achievement of issuing 300 certificates. Although the pin is light, it carries a heavy weight that denotes SGS’ efforts and commitments to assure that the industry is producing hazardous substance free products.
In Jan 2007, SGS was the first certification body in the world to achieve the 100th certificate mark. We attained the 200th certificate mark eight months later. The 300th certificate mark was reached merely five months later. So far, SGS remains the only certification body who attained more than 100 certificates and captures 46% of the world market share on IECQ Hazardous Substances Process Management (HSPM) certification. SGS’ clients include some of the world’s famous E&E manufacturers such as Philips Electronics; Giga-byte, a Taiwan consumer electronics manufacturer; GD Midea, the world’s largest microwave OEM and brand manufacturer; SMIC, largest semiconductor manufacturer in China, and Lite-On, an IT peripheral giant.
SGS was one of the first certification bodies accredited to offer IECQ HSPM certification service and issued China’s first HSPM certificate. Since then, we are committed to offer high quality IECQ-approved HSPM assessor and implementation courses to the industry. Even now, SGS maintains the largest HSPM auditor pool in the world among all certification bodies, having auditors in Greater China (including Hong Kong and Taiwan), Korea, Singapore and Brazil.
The IECQ HSPM QC 080000 was published by IEC (International Electro technical Commission) in November 2005 to response to the industrial demand of having a recognized international standard for hazardous substances process management (HSPM). HSPM became a hot topic when the European Union announced the RoHS (Restriction on Hazardous Substances) Directive in 2002.
The acceptance of QC 080000 by the worldwide E&E sector can be seen from that fact that it is the 14th most popular standard sold by IEC. The number of certificates issued in 2007 was five times that of the number of certificates issued in 2006. It has perhaps the fastest adoption rate among all certification standards (940 certificates as of Mar 2008, 28 months after its releases).
