BRC (British Retail Consortium) is an association representing retailers including large department stores. The BRC Global Standards are based on principles of risk assessment and good manufacturing practices (GMP) to provide safe, legal, and compliant products to the end-customer with the aim of ensuring quality, safety and the standardization of operation process, ensuring that manufacturers fulfill their legal obligations and safeguard the interests of the end-consumer.

The BRC Consumer Products Standard (BRC-CP) was firstly published in 2003 and now updated to the Fourth version, including General Merchandise (BRC-CP GM) and Personal Care and Household (BRC-CP PCH).
