Conflict minerals refers to minerals (generally tantalum, tin, gold and tungsten) mined under conditions of armed conflict and human rights abuses, notably in the eastern province of DRC, by the Congolese National Army and various armed rebel groups, including the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda. These minerals are essential to many products – from jewelry, medical devices, information technology equipment and consumer electronics to jet engines.
