We are pleased to announce our participation in the development of the TIC Council’s newly released Certification System for Sustainability Processes (CSSP), a groundbreaking framework that provides independent, recognized certification for sustainability and green claims.
With sustainability now a key driver in consumer markets, suppliers face increasing pressure to provide transparent, reliable environmental data. Green claims are under intense scrutiny, with regulators and consumers demanding credible, third-party verification. Until now, no comprehensive, ready-to-use scheme existed to support this need.
CSSP introduces a robust certification framework for green product claims, built on a structured life cycle assessment (LCA) data management approach. Unlike traditional verification processes, which involve multiple steps, CSSP streamlines the approach with a two-step system. Once a company’s internal data management process is certified, verifiers only need to assess the validity of the claim – accelerating the approval of multiple claims and reducing administrative burdens.
Keith Hutchinson, Global Certification, SGS: “This is a significant step forward for sustainability, and we at SGS are proud to have played a role in its development. CSSP Green Claims certification provides businesses with a much-needed solution that bridges the gap between current market demands and the requirements of the upcoming EU Green Claims Directive, expected to be finalized in late 2027.”
While green claims certification is a key focus, CSSP also can apply to other sustainability processes including:
- Climate transition plan management
- Sustainability system management
- Due diligence management
- Circular economy & traceability
- Biodiversity management
- Ethics and compliance management
As a leader in sustainability certification, we are committed to helping businesses navigate evolving environmental regulations with a range of solutions, including SGS green marks, that build consumer trust through verified sustainability claims.
