India opens consultation on proposed ban of two substances in food contact materials (FCMs) and articles.
On October 13, 2025, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) opened a 60-day consultation period on the proposed banning of two chemicals as part of the nation’s general requirements under its Food Safety and Standards (Packaging) Regulations, 2018 (consolidated version V to April 2025).
Highlights of the draft Food Safety and Standards (Packaging) Amendment Regulations, 2025, are summarized in Table 1:
