Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), known for their water and oil repellent properties, are now recognized as persistent, toxic and harmful to human health. Effective sampling and testing procedures are critical to managing PFAS contamination, protecting the environment and safeguarding public health.
As a global leader in PFAS sampling and testing, we offer comprehensive solutions for identifying PFAS across various environmental matrices, including drinking water, soil, air, waste and biological samples. Our specialized procedures follow established methods, such as EPA 537.1, EPA 1633 ISO and 21675:201, ensuring compliance with international standards. We provide tailored sampling kits, validated handling protocols, and use advanced analysis techniques, like total oxidizable precursor (TOP) assays and non-target screening, to detect both known and hidden PFAS compounds.
How our sampling and testing process works
- Contact your SGS representative
- Reach out to your SGS representative to request sample kits or to schedule a sampling appointment
- Know how to sample
- Sampling for PFAS is more challenging than for other pollutants, due to the increased risk of cross-contamination of your samples. It is important to validate the sampling requirements with the laboratory.
- Submit your samples
- After sampling, send your samples to our lab. If local PFAS testing is unavailable, we will use our extensive network and logistics experience to ensure your testing needs are met.
- Receive your results
- Results are typically available within 5 or 10 days, depending on the region. Fast-track options may be available upon request; please contact us for more details.
- Get your data
- Our laboratory produces an enormous amount of data. We make this data available to you in the formats you need, in a smooth and efficient manner, enabling you to act rapidly on the results. We can help you understand the results if needed.
With over 20 years of experience in PFAS testing and a global network of accredited laboratories, we ensure rapid turnaround times and accurate, reliable results. The US EPA has trusted us to develop the benchmark EPA 1633 method, a robust method validated over several type of matrices. Additionally, our innovative PFASafe approach helps organizations better understand and mitigate PFAS-related risks. With extensive experience in PFAS sampling, we are available to answer your questions even if you plan to sample yourself.
"By partnering with SGS, you gain access to cutting-edge technology, regulatory knowledge, and a team committed to protecting human health and the environment," says Luca Fagiuoli, Global Business Development Manager - Environmental Testing, who is leading the environmental PFAS working group at SGS.
As part of our IMPACT NOW for sustainability initiative, our accurate and precise PFAS testing of water, soil and air samples supports you in protecting the environment and human health.
