SG 140/25

India has issued a quality control order to update standards and compliance timelines for cookware, utensils and cans used with food and beverages.

In 2024, India published a quality control order to mandate the use of several national standards and the standard mark for cookware, utensils and cans for food and beverages (SafeGuardS 67/24).

In August 2025, India’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry issued the Cookware, Utensils and Cans for Foods and Beverages (Quality Control) Order, 2025 (Quality Control Order 2025).

Key changes in Quality Control Order 2025 include:

  • Updating three standards to their latest versions (IS 14756, IS 1660 and IS 14407)
  • Replacing IS 9396 (Part 1):1987 with IS 18427:2024
