We have issued our first ISO 7101 certification, for management systems for quality in healthcare organizations, to Chi Mei Medical Center in Taiwan, China, marking a significant milestone in advancing patient-centered healthcare and sustainable quality management. The tertiary-level hospital is also the first in Taiwan to achieve this certification.
Following a rigorous assessment by SGS, Chi Mei Medical Center demonstrated excellence in leadership, governance, clinical operations, risk management and patient safety. The certification was officially presented on July 23, 2025 at a press conference, where Stephen Pao, Vice President of Business Assurance, SGS in Taiwan, recognized the hospital's achievement as a benchmark for healthcare quality in Asia and worldwide.
ISO 7101 – a new global standard for healthcare quality
Launched by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in 2023, ISO 7101 is the first quality management system standard dedicated to healthcare. Building on the principles of ISO 9001 and tailored to healthcare's unique challenges, it covers seven core elements including leadership, co-production, information security and infection prevention and control. The standard enables healthcare providers to enhance quality governance, strengthen cross-functional collaboration, and deliver safe, consistent and patient-focused care.

By integrating ISO 9001 and ISO 7101 into its operations, Chi Mei Medical Center has streamlined regulatory compliance, optimized resources, and reinforced its quality culture. Superintendent Dr. Hung-Jung Lin stated: "We are honored to achieve SGS's first ISO 7101 certification worldwide, reflecting our commitment to safer, more reliable care.
