EN 71-2 Amendment A1:2025 for flammability in toys is published as part of the review of the series of standards.

EN 71-2 sets flammability requirements for toys. The amendment was published in June 2025 following revisions due to the so-called ‘Standardization Request’, which defines the standards work program and is an agreement between the EU Commission and CEN/CENELEC.

There are no major changes to the previous version, EN 71-2:2020.

Please find below an overview of the changes:

TopicChange
Highly flammable and flammable liquidsAlignment with EN 71-5: Chemical toys (sets) other than experimental sets and EN 71-13: Olfactory board games, cosmetic kits and gustative games.

After harmonization, and publication in the Official Journal of the EU, the standard can be used to show compliance with the Toy Safety Directive 2009/48/EC. Currently it is not known when the new EN 71-2 will be harmonized and when the transitional period will end.
