Expanded E-Micromobility and Battery Certification Scope for Additional NSW Requirements

May 07, 2025

We are pleased to announce an expansion in our testing and certification services for e-micromobility devices and batteries to align with new safety regulations introduced by the Government of New South Wales (NSW), Australia.

Effective February 1, 2025, new mandatory certification requirements will apply to e-bikes and their batteries to enhance consumer safety and prevent unsafe products from entering the market. Manufacturers and retailers of e-bicycles, batteries, e-scooters, e-skateboards and hoverboards in NSW must comply with prescribed standards and submit test reports and relevant documentation for certification approval.

We are an approved certification body, accredited under AS/NZS ISO/IEC 17065 by the Joint Accreditation System of Australia and New Zealand (JAS-ANZ). Our electrical type testing scheme is recognized under both the NSW Recognised External Approval Scheme (REAS) and Queensland Recognised External Certification Scheme (RECS). With this expanded scope, we can now issue certificates of approval under the new NSW regulation.

Applicable standards include:

E-bikes:

  • ANSI/CAN/UL 2849
  • AS 15194:2016
  • EN 15194:2017+A1:2023

E-bike batteries:

  • ANSI/CAN/UL 2271
  • EN 50604-1:2016+A1:2021

E-scooters, e-skateboards and hoverboards:

  • ANSI/CAN/UL 2272
  • AS/NZS 60335.2.114:2023
  • EN 17128

E-scooter, e-skateboard and hoverboard batteries:

  • ANSI/CAN/UL 2271
  • AS/NZS 60335.2.114:2023
