We are pleased to announce that SGS has achieved accreditation by the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB) for ISO/IEC 42001:2023 Artificial Intelligence (AI) Management System.
This accreditation enables us to deliver independent, third-party assessments to businesses seeking certification to ISO/IEC 42001, an international standard that specifies requirements for establishing, implementing, maintaining and continually improving an Artificial Intelligence Management System (AIMS) within organizations. It is designed as a governance framework for entities that provide or use AI-based products and services, ensuring responsible development and use of AI systems.
“ANAB is the world’s largest accreditation body, and this mark of approval by ANAB allows us to offer this important AI standard to our clients around the world. This accreditation bolsters our certification portfolio as it will facilitate integration with other SGS ANAB-accredited standards, such as ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 and ISO/IEC 27001,” said Aymeric Riverieulx, Global Head of Mobility, Digital and Innovation, Business Assurance, SGS. “Delivering ISO/IEC 42001 certification also aligns with SGS’s Strategy 27, which sets ambitious growth targets in the digital trust space. We are responding to megatrends in the TIC industry, particularly in innovation in digital capabilities and new technologies, driving the strong growth by digital trust needs and technological changes.
“Certification to this standard by an accredited body, like SGS, ensures that an organization’s management system is effective and in line with the requirements of the ISO/IEC 42001 standard and its associated best practices. ISO/IEC 42001-certified businesses achieve conformance to a single international benchmark, which is also beneficial for organizations with global trading partners or clients.”
ISO/IEC 42001 certification follows successful completion of an audit and enables businesses to:
- Indicate strong governance concerning AI
- Implement AI safely, with evidence of responsibility and accountability
- Consider security, safety, fairness, transparency and data and AI system quality throughout the life cycle
- Show that introducing AI is a strategic decision with clear objectives
- Strike a balance between governance and innovation
- Ensure that AI is used responsibly, especially concerning its continuous learning
- Ensure that all relevant safeguards are in place
- Combine key frameworks with experience to implement crucial processes like risk, life cycle and data quality management
