SGS is accredited by the International Organic Accreditation Service (IOAS) to extend its Textile Exchange product certification services to India.
This marks another milestone in the growth of SGS’s ability to offer one-stop certification services for manufacturers, retailers and buyers across the textile and footwear industry.
The scope of this accreditation covers the Content Claim Standard (CCS) and Recycled Claim standard (RCS) for textile, leather, plastic, paper and metal product categories. In addition, it includes the Organic Content Standard (OCS); Responsible Down Standard (RDS) and RAF (covering Responsible Wool Standard (RWS), Responsible Mohair Standard (RMS) and Responsible Alpaca Standard (RAS)).
SGS, which has been providing Textile Exchange services from its IOAS accredited laboratories in Spain since 2021, will deliver the enhanced certification scope from strategically located testing laboratories in Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Gurgaon, Kolkata, Ludhiana, Mumbai and Tirupur.
Shailesh Sharma, Director, Connectivity & Products, Softlines at SGS said: “We are delighted to have gained IOAS approval to expand our global textile and footwear certification services to give us maximum local presence across India. We are now even better placed to provide organizations across the region with the tools and expertise to achieve their sustainable sourcing goals and demonstrate the accurate recycled and organic content of their products."
Textile Exchange accreditation covers:
- CCS – a chain of custody standard that provides companies with a tool to verify a specific input material in a final product. It requires that each organization along the supply chain takes sufficient steps to ensure that the integrity and identity of the input materials are preserved. CCS is the foundation for all the Textile exchange chain of custody of standards (RCS, GRS, OCS, RDS & RAF)
- RCS – a chain of custody standard to verify and track recycled raw materials through the supply chain. It does not address the use of chemicals or any social or environmental aspects of production beyond the integrity of the recycled material. It is intended for use with any product that contains at least 5% recycled material
- OCS – a voluntary global standard that sets the criteria for third party certification of organic materials and chain of custody for manufacturers, traders and brands who use organic materials in their products
- RDS – for any stage of the supply chain after slaughter site, including manufacturer
- RAF – for any stage of the supply chain after the farm
